My Role
Sole designer
This project marked the beginning of my journey at Waltz. I owned the work end-to-end: information architecture, system design, design system, configurability framework, engineering handoff, and post-launch usability research. The work I'm proudest of is the configurability handoff itself, a format that didn't exist before this project and now governs how new partner portals get built.
Overview
Waltz Health's Marketplace Search helps patients find the lowest price on their prescriptions across discount programs at the pharmacy of their choice. The original portal had been built one-off for a single pharmacy, with no shared codebase and no room for new use cases. I led the redesign as one configurable system, simple enough to wear any partner's brand and flexible enough to support two distinct interaction models.
It now powers the Rx Savings Finder portals at Albertsons Companies and Medicare Advantage payer SCAN Health Plan.
Impact
Shipped the configurable platform in 90 days, sole designer, end-to-end.
Live with the Albertsons Companies family of pharmacies and Medicare Advantage payer SCAN Health Plan, supporting two distinct interaction models from a single design system.
New partner portals can now stand up in less than 10 minutes instead of months, with no engineering rebuild and no design rework per client.
ADA compliance achieved at launch, closing a critical gap inherited from the original portal.

What I did
Mapped the existing portal's information architecture, surfaced the constraints baked into a design built for one client, and re-architected it to carry two distinct interaction models from a single foundation.
Designed each component with a clear line between what configures per partner and what stays constant, then built the design system that holds the platform together underneath any brand.
Created the configurability documentation and tooling spec from scratch, defining the controls engineering needed to build the configuration layer. The format now governs how new partner portals get built.
Ran post-launch usability research with recruited participants, then translated findings into the next round of platform changes, including a trust-building pattern that shipped after launch.
What I took away

Restraint is the white label
White-label work is where every design instinct toward expression has to be checked at the door. The discipline isn't deciding what to add for each client. It's holding the line on what every client has to live without. The design earns its reuse through subtraction.

Configuration is a design surface
In a multi-tenant system, the choice of what should configure and what should stay fixed is itself a design decision, not an engineering one. If the design doesn't draw that line, engineering will draw it by default. The work is to draw it on purpose.

Trust decays without a timestamp
Information that changes silently looks broken to the user, even when it's working. A surface that updates without showing it has updated trains people to distrust what they see. The work is to make the system's freshness as visible as its content.
